Addressing Issues of Using Powder Coating

There are various problems that may be encountered in the construction of powder coatings, such as poor edge coverage, poor powder fluidization, powder clogging, low powder loading rate, and poor coating adhesion. For these problems, the following solutions can be taken:

Poor edge coverage: add about 0.5-1.0% of the total amount of formula in the coating of the rheological agent, such as polyethylene wax, polyvinyl butyral, etc., or add a blocking agent of silica, etc., in order to improve the inside and outside surfaces of the edges of the workpiece being coated in the spraying of the powder, as well as curing of the film can be as uniform as the plane position, not to produce shrinkage, fat edge phenomenon. Produce shrinking edge, fat edge phenomenon 1.

Powder fluidization is not good: clean the air filter, increase the air pressure appropriately; reduce the amount of powder loading of the fluidized bed, generally the amount of powder added to the fluidized bed volume of 2/3; manually loosening the powder filtration, in order to solve the problem of powder caking 2.

Powder clogging: Reduce the loading amount of fluidized bed, control the powder dosage for 2/3 of the fluidized bed volume; reduce the proportion of recycled powder added to the original powder, check the particle size distribution of the original powder 2.

Powder rate is not high: check and properly adjust the static voltage of the spray gun; reduce the air pressure of powder delivery; reduce the amount of air extraction; control the particle size distribution of the powder and the specific gravity of the coating 2.

Poor coating adhesion: strengthen the substrate treatment, ensure the surface is clean, no oil, no rust, no impurities; control the thickness of the coating, to avoid excessive stress caused by too thick; ensure complete curing, improve the hardness and adhesion of the coating; choose high-performance powder coating, improve the mechanical properties and durability of the coating 3.

Through the above measures, the problems encountered in the construction of powder coatings can be effectively solved to improve the quality and performance of the coating.
